Reorganisation of Mittelplate Drilling and Production Island to Optimise Oil Production

The reorganisation of the supply infrastructure and logistics operations for the Mittelplate Drilling and Production Island will further optimise oil production from Germany’s biggest oil field, Mittelplate.

The Cuxhaven-based company EnTec has been awarded the contract for the construction and operation of a new land base. A further agreement was signed with the Dutch company Acta Marine for the optimization of the fleet of vessels.

The land base is used for the transhipment of the materials required to operate Mittelplate Drilling and Production Island – Germany’s only offshore oil-producing facility. The reorganisation involves the implementation of a state-of-the-art inventory and warehouse management system. A section of the new land base will be located outside the lock, allowing for greater flexibility in the planning and processing of transfers of materials to Mittelplate Drilling and Production Island. “We’re delighted with the fact that with EnTec, we were able to sign up a competent enterprise based in Cuxhaven as operator for the land base,” said the Head of RWE Dea’s Holstein Production District, Thomas Kainer.

To achieve further improvements in the infrastructure supporting Mittelplate, an agreement was also signed with the Dutch company Acta Marine for a programme to upgrade the existing fleet of supply vessels for Mittelplate. The aim here is to reduce the number of ship movements by deploying new vessels, all of which will be fitted with state-of-the-art engines capable of lowering CO2 emissions. This will represent yet another contribution by RWE Dea towards environmental protection in the ecologically sensitive Wadden Sea tidelands. Thomas Kainer: “By modernising our fleet, we will be implementing the next part of our strategy to improve environmental compatibility further still. We are mindful of the sensitivity of this natural environment, and our aim is to improve our operation continually. We are pleased that we will now have an experienced partner by our side.”
