Dead Whale Emerges on Maersk Norwich’s Bulb While Entering Port of Rotterdam

Day before yesterday morning, around 11.00 hour, the ‘Maersk Norwich’ entered the port of Rotterdam carrying a dead whale on its bulb. It is not known yet what type of whale it is and where the vessel has picked it up. The length is approx. 12 metres.

The container vessel is 120 metres long and able to carry 2,600 TEU. Its port of departure is Santa Marta in Colombia and it is chartered by Maersk Line and deployed in a Caribbean/Central America service. The Maersk Norwich is moored at the APMT terminal at Rotterdam Maasvlakte.

Around 14.00 hour, the whale was removed from the bulb and transported to a site where a university institute removed part of the whale for research.
