Introduction to VPS

VPS provides Testing and Inspection services globally to the maritime industry and is the clear market leader in its niche end market. VPS operates on a global basis with services provided through one of its five laboratories which are supported by an international network of commercial and technical advisory teams. The VPS Head Office is in the Netherlands (Barendrecht) with other locations in Singapore, Houston, Fujairah and UK.

Purpose of the Role

One of VPS' core activities is conducting quantitative inspections of marine fuels on board ships by means of the Bunker Quantity Survey (BQS). These activities are carried out by employees of the BQS (Bunker Quantity Survey) department led by the BQS Manager.

The function

As a bunker surveyor you will primarily perform the following activities:

• Performing and reporting bunker quantity measurements of fuel for ships

• Taking samples for both BQS and FQT (Fuel Quality Testing) for fuel quality testing by the laboratory

You follow the entire process in accordance with the requirements in the VPS Code of Practice

Reporting Line & Location

• Reports to the Manager BQS with no direct reports
• Based in Barendrecht

Knowledge & Skills

• You have at least a completed MBO course (eg Shipping and Transport college). Preferably supplemented with the certificate "Surveyor Liquid Bulk/VOL-VCA"

• Experience in the position of bunker surveyor is a clear advantage

• Recent experience within the maritime and/or transport sector and experience with quality inspections is a must

• Good math skills

• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office

• Good command of the Dutch and English language in word and writing

• You can communicate well and are patient

• Living in the vicinity of Rotterdam. Due to the nature of the job, we expect you to find working outside office hours and weekends no problem. You are flexible, honest, stable, dedicated and you have a steadfast personality.
