Statoil to Use ‘COSLPioneer’ for North Sea Well

Statoil has received consent to use the COSLPioneer mobile drilling rig for drilling and completion of production well 34/8-C-1 in the Visund field.

Visund is an oil field situated in the northern part of the North Sea, about 130 km west of Florø. The field has been developed using a semi-submersible accommodation, drilling and process rig. Production on the field began in 1999.

The well to be drilled is a production well at Visund Nord, which has been developed using a subsea template located 10 km north of the Visund rig. Water depth at the site is 377 metres.

The work is planned to start in October, with an estimated duration of 140 days.

COSLPioneer is a type GM4000, built at Yantai Raffles Shipyard, China in 2010. The rig is owned and operated by COSL Drilling Europe. It is registered in Singapore and classified by DnV. COSLPioneer was issued with an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AOC) by the PSA in June 2011.
