About us

Damen Services provides a broad portfolio of services for the entire life cycle of a ship built by Damen. This includes the handling of warranty calls, delivery of vessels, training crew members, delivery of spare parts, providing maintenance, and execute modifications & repairs.

Damen Services' mission is to support the sales organization of Damen in selling vessels by providing additional value in the form of services. After the sale of a ship, excellent services are delivered in order to increase the likelihood that a customer will choose Damen again to buy a ship for replacement or expansion.

At the operational level, the Services department maintains contact with clients and is the eyes and ears of the sales organization. Damen Services is a dynamic organization due to its global character. This is reflected in behavior of its employees; together we make it happen, approachable, proactive and always in for the extra step.

The role

We are looking for a Financial Controller for the division Damen Services. Damen Services consists of our head office, based in the Netherlands, and several Service Hubs located across the globe. In this role you will collaborate with the Business Controller and Area Controllers located in the Netherlands or stationed at the Service Hubs.

You will also closely collaborate with our financial Shared Service Center (FSSC) as well as Damen Group expertise centers such as Treasury, Tax and Group Control. This position is an excellent opportunity to be the linking pin between the independent Services Companies and Damen Group functions in a very dynamic, growing, and international organization.

As a Financial Controller you will be reporting to the Lead Financial Control of Damen Services and have a vital role in realizing all the internal- and external financial reporting of the Damen Services entities and the consolidated divisional reporting, cashflow planning and a variety of financial analyses. You will also play a key role in the improvement programs related to SAP (ERP) and working capital improvement.

Damen Services has an open and informal culture with short communication lines. You work directly with the Financial Director and other MT members. This gives you the opportunity to hear and learn a lot at a strategic level.

Key accountabilities

  • Responsible for the monthly and annual financial reporting process for all Damen Services entities as well as the monthly consolidation on a divisional level, in close cooperation with FSSC;
  • Responsible for the long- and short-term cashflow planning and contribute to the working capital improvement program;
  • Playing a key role in the continuous improvement of SAP as well contribute to the implementation of new Damen Services entities in SAP;
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the required tooling to improve the current cash- and result forecasting;
  • Working closely together with the Finance Director of Damen Services in reviewing, updating, and documenting the organization’s financial policies and procedures to ensure full compliancy with (inter)national laws and regulations;
  • Ensure (accounting) standards for division reporting are applied in accordance with Dutch and local GAAP and not conflicting with the Damen Accounting Manual.

Skills & experience

  • Bachelor/Master degree in Business Economics, Accounting or Finance;
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience (accounting, reporting etc.);
  • Driven, ambitious and engaged;
  • Accurate and well-structured. Hands-on attitude;
  • Eagerness to learn and develop on a personal and professional level;
  • Team player: flexible and able to work in a small team within a dynamic work environment;
  • Affinity with automation and digitization of reporting processes and (PowerBI) analytics;
  • Knowledge and experience with SAP (or familiar ERP);
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in Dutch and English.
