About us

At our headquarters in Gorinchem, within the Damen Shipyards Group, there is the Group Sustainability. A new department with a focus on our mission, to be the most sustainable shipbuilder of the world. Their purpose is to provide leadership and direction to the Damen organization to create, implement and manage a sustainability strategy that meets the organization's mission. As Damen is divided into Divisions, and everyone has an objective to make their product or service more sustainable, there are a lot of different projects already happening. The Group Sustainability has a focus on coordinating and reporting on all these different projects, to make sure we meet the requirements and create all the support needed on operational aspects.

The role

As a student working for the Group Sustainability, you will work on creating an overview for all different projects that are currently active and future ones we would like to set up. We would like to create a clear insight in what is being done and what the road looks like that we are taking. How can these projects be highlighted within our communication towards the internal and external stakeholders that we have? What is being done, what has been achieved and what are the trends within the industry? The assignment is very broad and there is a lot to do, so depending on your background, study and interest, we will specify the assignment together. We can accommodate both internships and graduation projects and have roles for both BSc and MSc students.

The role demands that you have excellent communication skills, as you will not only be researching but also interviewing internal and external partners.

Key accountabilities

You will be responsible for answering a specific research question and/or for the development of an overview of all Damen activities related to sustainability. You may hold interviews, write reports and dive into the different Divisions to find out all the information that is needed. We expect you to do this independently but of course you will have a mentor available to you. The Group Sustainability Director is your daily supervisor.

Skills & experience

At least several skills/experiences from the following list are required to be considered:

• BSc/MSc student with an interest in sustainability
• You are a student within the fields of Marketing, Business management, Economics or Industrial Engineering
• Preferably experience with networking, interviews and/or research work
• You have confidence in your writing skills, as you will be responsible for putting initiatives into words.
• Both Dutch and English communication skills are mandatory
