Position

The Crew Officer ensures that each ship is the vessels are adequately manned with qualified, certificated and medically fit crew in accordance with (inter)national requirements to safely and efficiently operate the vessels. This role is essential for managing all aspects of crewing operations, including recruitment, planning, training, compliance, and welfare. The crew officer play a crucial role in maintaining compliance with regulations, meeting industry standards, and fostering a positive work environment onboard vessels. Ultimately, the purpose of this role is to support the operational excellence and success of maritime activities by managing the human resources aspect of vessel operations effectively.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Manage the selection and recruitment of all crew, directly or through manning agents, in accordance with the procedures.
  • Managing crew documentation, including employment contracts, visas, passports and certificates, and ensuring compliance with international maritime regulations and industry standards.
  • Planning crew rotations and schedules to ensure adequate manning levels on vessels, taking into account factors such as leave, special requests from crew, training and agreed crewing strategies and procedures.
  • Coordinating training and development programs for crew members to ensure they have the necessary skills and qualifications to perform their duties effectively and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Arrange and coordinate travelling arrangements for on- and off-signing crew in liaison with other departments within Roll Group, the Masters, Port Agents and manning agencies.
  • Evaluating the performance of crew members and providing feedback, support, and guidance as needed to maintain high standards of performance and professionalism.
  • Maintain an excellent administration in crew administration software and payroll software.
  • Monitoring the well-being of crew members and addressing any issues related to health, safety, and living conditions onboard vessels.
  • Advise and support on crewing matters with regards to other departments.
  • Represent Roll Group at events, like but not limited to recruitments events, information days at nautical colleges, apprentice selection day, fleets days, etc.

Your qualifications

Pro-active, entrepreneurial, and service-minded, you are a natural planner with a flexible, hands-on attitude. Tight schedules and deadlines don’t faze you, and you’re prepared to work evenings and/or weekends when needed.

Other knowledge and skills you bring to Roll Group include:

  • Intermediate Vocational Education (Maritime, Logistics, Human Resources) or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in similar position.
  • Able to work in a team as well as independently.
  • Honest and transparent.
  • Resilient and composed.
  • Good computer literacy.
  • Fluent in Dutch and English (both verbally and in writing).
  • Willingness to travel abroad (occasionally).

Our selection process

The recruitment procedure will include two face-to-face interviews, possibly back-to-back. Your terms of employment and benefits package will be discussed at a subsequent meeting. We aim to finalize the entire process within 4 weeks.
